Craps History
The game of craps is the most popular dice game in the United States, at the moment there are a few different theories about its origin. Dice games can be traced back to the roman times with shaved pigs knuckles being used as the dice. Craps is also said to be based on the game hazard, which was very popular in England in the 18th century. The game of Craps is said to have derived its name from the word Crabs, which was the name for the throw of aces or ace-deuce. Later the game moved from France to the USA and now the game was called Craps. Then of course it was a simplified version of the game. It was very popular on the Mississippi boats. Nowadays there are two versions of the game. Street craps has more in common with the riverboat game than Bank craps and it is so named as it can be played on the street. A shooter establishes a point, then tries to make that point. The players make bets for or against the shooter. But at least one of the bettors has to make a bet for the shooter. Bank Craps or simply craps played in casinos are more complicated, there are more bets and options there. Sophokel said that the dice were invented by the Greek, whose name was Palamed during the siege of Troy. Gerodoht insisted that the dice were introduced in days of tsar Atis by his people. But numerous archeological digs deny these view points. According to these digs the dice were use much earlier. Before the dice became gambling tools, they were used for magic purposes. People used them to predict the fortune. The first dice were made of animals bonus. In different countries the dice for the game were made of different materials and were of different shape. In some countries they were made of plum or peach pits, of different seeds, animals’ bones, nut shells, animals’ teeth and so on. Then people began to use different metals for making dice. Bronze, agate, rock crystal and other metals were used for making dice.
